EgyptAir
Egypt's national airline since 1932, Star Alliance member
About EgyptAir
EGYPTAIR is the national airline of Egypt and one of the world's pioneer carriers. Established in May 1932 as the seventh airline in the world, it began commercial operations with a Spartan Cruiser flying from Cairo to Alexandria. Since 1 July 2002, by Presidential Decree 137/2002, EGYPTAIR has been a holding company with seven subsidiaries covering airline operations and related services. It joined the Star Alliance network, the world's largest airline alliance, on 17 July 2008, and has code share agreements with selected airlines around the world.
History
Twelve De Havilland aircraft were added in the early years. During the Second World War the Egyptian government took over the airline and renamed it Misr Airlines, later MisrAir, which bought ten Beechcraft and then ten Vickers Vikings and the French Languedoc. A merger with Syrian Airlines created United Arab Airlines (UAA), which became the first Middle Eastern carrier to operate Comet 4C jets and then the Boeing 707-320C on longer international routes. After MisrAir and Syrian Airlines separated, the airline took the EGYPTAIR name.
Fleet
EGYPTAIR describes its fleet as 70 latest-generation long, medium and short haul aircraft. Fleet pages list wide-body configurations such as 301 seats (36 business and 265 economy), 346 seats (49 business and 297 economy) with 3-3-3 and 2-3-2 cabin layouts, and 309 seats (30 business and 279 economy), along with narrow-body layouts of 142, 144, 154 and 182 seats with 16 to 24 business class seats.
