Cogne Acciai Speciali S.p.A. is an Italian producer of stainless steel long products and nickel alloys headquartered at Via Paravera 16 in Aosta, where it has been making steel for more than a century. Describing itself as a world leader in long stainless steels and nickel alloys, the company produces a wide range of special steels for high-technology sectors, certified to international standards, and has used a strategic development plan to consolidate its position in the oil and gas, power generation and automotive markets while gaining new certifications for the aerospace and nickel-based product markets.

Production

• Integrated bar and wire rod rolling mill with heat treatment furnaces and a pickling unit at the Aosta plant
• Two push-down hydraulic presses of 5,000 and 2,000 tonnes for forging
• Final non-destructive testing based on Antimix eddy current and ultrasonic inspection
• A lean production programme and a production flow that runs from melting through rolling, forging, heat treatment and finishing

• More than 1,100 full-time employees, rising to about 1,500 with contract staff, making it the largest business in the Valle d'Aosta region
• Productive and commercial subsidiaries in strategic areas around the world supporting the distribution and output of the Aosta plant, with a network of commercial offices listed on the site
• In June 2022 Taiwan's Walsin Lihwa Corporation became the 70 percent shareholder, with the combined group aiming to supply the most complex grades of stainless steel and nickel alloys from a single source
• Share capital of 494.2 million euros, fully paid

Sustainability and people

Cogne states an ongoing commitment to developing products and processes that minimise environmental impact, publishes an ESG data hub, and has obtained UNI/PdR 125 certification for gender equality, which it presents as part of building a workplace based on diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities.
