CLARENCE

Clarence is a sovereign cloud company in Bettembourg, Luxembourg. It runs an air-gapped cloud, which means the system has no connection to the internet. It calls itself the first sovereign air-gapped cloud in Europe.

Clarence is a joint venture between two Luxembourg partners, Proximus and LuxConnect. They set it up to offer advanced cloud features while giving customers full control over where their data sits and who can reach it. The name joins two ideas, clarity and transparency.

The platform was first built on Google Cloud technologies. It is opening up to open-source tools and European software. Each client gets a physically dedicated setup. The platform is installed and run locally in Luxembourg, in Tier IV data centres. Clarence says this gives high availability and business continuity, even in a major crisis.

Clarence says the isolated design removes attack routes that come from outside networks. It also says customer data is not exposed to the US Cloud Act or other rules from outside Europe. Data stays in Luxembourg and is covered only by European law. The company also says the platform is built for artificial intelligence work. It can run heavy workloads in a controlled setting.

The service is aimed at governments, regulated companies, international organisations and businesses that hold sensitive data in Europe. It is meant for the most critical settings, where confidentiality, security and rules on data location matter most. It holds an ISO 27001 certificate.

Clarence works on four values: sovereignty, security, reliability and innovation. Proximus brings experience in managed services for regulated firms. LuxConnect brings experience in secure hosting and runs national fibre networks and data centres.
