Becker Helicopters

Becker Helicopters is a helicopter pilot academy and airwork operator based at Sunshine Coast Airport in Marcoola, Queensland, Australia. It has been operating since 1995. The company trains civil and military helicopter pilots and flies commercial airwork such as firefighting, lifting and search and rescue.

Flight training

• Training from first licence to advanced ratings
• Instrument, night and night vision goggle (NVIS) ratings
• Instructor rating and training endorsements

• Low level rating, firefighting endorsement and formation flying
• Flight reviews and proficiency checks

The company says more than 500 civil pilots have graduated from the academy, and many now work around the world. Training is backed by its own flight simulation and virtual reality trainers and a range of theory books, pilot handling notes and videos written by Mike Becker.

Military pilot training

Becker Helicopters has provided military pilot training for more than 10 years. Its Initial Entry Rotary Wing program has graduated over 350 military pilots. The program covers basic and advanced handling, emergencies, standard and tactical navigation, instrument, night, night vision goggles and formation flying. Graduates are accepted for entry into Fort Rucker for further type training with US Army Aviation.

Airwork and charter

• Search and rescue and emergency response, including floods and oil spills
• Firefighting, firefighting support, incendiary dropping and fire mapping with night vision goggles
• Precision lifting with short or long line
• Filming, tourism and charter

Approvals

CASA approved flight school and a Registered Training Organisation. Clients and partners shown on its website include Queensland Fire and Rescue, AMSA, CASA, Ergon, KBR and the UAE Presidential Guard.

Fleet

Training is flown on Bell 206B JetRanger helicopters. Airwork uses aircraft such as the AS350 Squirrel.
