About AVI

AVI designs and makes critical communications systems, parts and data solutions from Perth, Western Australia. The company is Australian owned and operated and was founded in 1989. Its hardened networking gear serves defence, mining, government, utilities and public safety customers.

Its products include rugged routers, LTE and NR routers, Wi-Fi routers, modems, embedded services switches and a field Ethernet power supply. The company also offers AVIOS and CCMS software, and LANpipe, a complete software defined networking system. The range includes the AVI 9520 ARRv3 airborne rugged router, which the company links to atomic clock precision for mission-critical communications.

AVI hardware is built to be rugged. Features include shock and vibration resistance, extended operating temperatures, solid billet machining and full traceability. The company says its products run on airborne platforms at extreme altitude, in land mobile missile systems inside the Arctic Circle and on mine sites. It adds that its products power some of the biggest robots in the world, supporting autonomous vehicles and networked battle systems.

The engineering team includes software, electronic, aviation and mechanical engineers, communication specialists and electronic technicians. AVI handles design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, installation, training and support. Its manufacturing campus in Booragoon, Western Australia, has robotic sheet metal machines, CNC machining centres, clean rooms and an on-campus lab. Machining is done in-house, which gives full traceability.

The company runs its own environmental testing. Its facilities include an EMC chamber, sun and salt event chambers, an IP69K water chamber, dust chambers and a temperature and vibration chamber that tests from minus 70 to 180 degrees Celsius.

AVI began in audio-visual work, then grew into radio, satellite, digital recording and data. Its contracting team fitted out courts, parliament houses, immigration facilities, airports and seaports across Australia with communication, security and digital media systems. The company partners with Australian special forces and hires veterans. It has support offices in North America, Europe and Australia, and offers on-site and online training.

In mining, AVI supplies networking for autonomous equipment, working with telecom providers and heavy equipment makers.
