ATC Materials

ATC Materials designs and makes custom material solutions, mostly for the US Department of Defense and industry customers. The company is a small business. Its headquarters is in Westlake, Ohio, and its research facility is in Flagstaff, Arizona. It was founded in 1996 as American Technical Coatings, Inc.

The company says it moved from thermal coatings to more advanced materials and products over time. Early work with NASA, the Department of Defense and defense primes led to several products. Thermal protection systems grew into dielectric materials for harsh environments. Body armor knowledge grew into protection against larger threats, including insensitive munitions.

Armor is one product line. It is lightweight, multi hit and structural, and it is built for each application. The company lists large caliber and fragment protection and prototype development. A second line is RF materials for extreme environments. These keep stable dielectric performance at high temperatures. Uses include radomes, antenna lenses, RF windows, communications and industrial sensing.

The company also offers modeling and simulation. Physics based tools predict how armor performs and guide material development. The work runs on an ITAR compliant computing cluster. Other tools include a five axis waterjet, a ceramic machining center and a stock of high hard and ultra high hard armor steels. These capabilities may be offered as a service.
