AOPA Germany

AOPA Germany is the German association of aircraft owners and pilots, officially the Verband der Allgemeinen Luftfahrt e.V. Its website, published in German, explains that AOPA stands for Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and that AOPA has more than 400,000 members worldwide and representation in 82 countries. It calls AOPA the largest pilot association in the world. All national AOPAs belong to the international umbrella body IAOPA.

Role of the association

AOPA Germany represents general aviation in Germany through lobbying work. The site says general aviation, with about 23,000 aircraft, is the largest segment of air traffic in Germany. It covers all civil flights that are not scheduled services and is described as the individual transport part of aviation, comparable to car traffic on the road. The association argues that only a strong body can represent these interests in the many committees involved.

AOPA Germany hosted the 31st IAOPA World Assembly in Bad Homburg from 29 September to 2 October 2026, which brought together more than 100 representatives of general aviation associations and aviation authorities. It is listed as a sponsor of AERO Friedrichshafen 2027.
