ALRO

ALRO is Romania's aluminium producer and one of the largest vertically integrated aluminium producers in Europe by capacity. All of its production and processing facilities are in Slatina, Romania, where the state built the country's first and only aluminium plant more than 60 years ago. The company is listed on the main market of the Bucharest Stock Exchange and supplies aluminium products to demanding international markets, including aerospace.

Divisions

• Primary aluminium: anodes, the aluminium smelter, casting house and an eco-friendly scrap recycling facility, with auxiliary repair, spare parts and road and rail transport units; the plant reached an annual output of 263,500 tonnes of aluminium at the end of its expansion period
• Processed aluminium: rolled, extruded and cast products including plates, sheets, strips, bars and slabs, with a processing capacity of 100,000 tonnes and a programme under way to raise it to 140,000 tonnes

Products and services

ALRO's range is manufactured to the standards used in the most demanding markets and includes plates, bars, strips and slabs. Its CutSmart Systems configurator lets customers order aluminium plates cut to exact dimensions directly from the producer, using CNC punching equipment for precision whatever the thickness. The company has invested more than 60 million dollars in upgrading its processing facilities with environmentally friendly technologies, raised its fume collection rate to 99 percent and focused its investment programme on high value-added products.

History

Milestones on the site run from the decision to build the Slatina plant and the first batch of Romanian aluminium, through capacity expansion, the stock exchange listing and the privatisation agreement, to recent investments. ALRO takes part in European aluminium policy debates, supporting a call to suspend the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism for aluminium until design flaws identified in a Ramboll study for European Aluminium are corrected, and sponsors community initiatives such as a public monument design competition with Slatina Municipality.
