About Alha Group Milan Malpensa

Alha Group Milan Malpensa runs an air cargo terminal at Milan Malpensa airport in Lonate Pozzolo, Italy. It handles cargo for airlines and freight forwarders and is part of the Alha Group air cargo network.

The terminal has been based at Malpensa since 1997. It sits in the Cargo City buildings E and F, just in front of the freighter parking bays. Its capacity is 400,000 tons a year. It now handles just under 300,000 tons a year for 32 airlines, with an average of 34 full-freighter flights a week. The site accepts cargo 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

The warehouse covers 25,000 square metres. An automated system stacks, retrieves and loads up to 550 unit load devices, and a cargo IT system called MaCS controls it. The terminal has 40 docks for loose cargo and 12 docks for build-up pallets. A separate acceptance gate takes oversized shipments, and cranes can be arranged. Alha also offers ramp handling for cargo aircraft, backed by its own ground support equipment fleet. About 520 people work at the terminal.

The Pharma Centre handles pharmaceutical and healthcare shipments. It deals with refrigerated pharma, room temperature pharma and pharma in active containers. For active containers it checks airworthiness, pre-cools, builds up loads, refills dry ice or changes batteries, and recharges units. CoolBox is a refrigerated dolly that moves pharma between the Pharma Centre and the aircraft on the apron.

The Fresh Centre is a 1,600 square metre refrigerated area with direct access to the tarmac. It keeps temperatures between minus 20 and plus 25 degrees Celsius. It handles foods, flowers and fruit as well as medicines. A control room monitors every area around the clock and keeps a 15 day temperature log. The terminal also has freezer, cold room and vault space.

Alha provides added security for high-value cargo, with a focus on electronics and fashion. Its facilities hold TAPA FSR A status, its trucks hold TAPA TSR 1, and all premises have CCTV. The team handles about 2,000 luxury cars a year. The group is certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. It also holds IATA CEIV Pharma and CEIV Fresh, GDP, Authorized Economic Operator and Regulated Agent status.
