Aircraft Builders Council

The Aircraft Builders Council (ABC) is an insurance program that provides products liability coverage for aviation and aerospace manufacturers and for major service and repair organizations. Its website says it was founded in 1954, when aviation products liability cover was still in its early days and hard to find on the open market. A group of manufacturers, brokers, insurers and a law firm built the facility together, and the website says many of the original companies still take part. The office is in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the United States.

• Master Lineslip, covering aviation products and grounding liability with a limit of up to 1 billion US dollars from one panel of insurers
• ABC FLEX, a co-insurance option that mirrors the master program for part orders that follow a U.S. warranty company, with a minimum of 75 percent to the ABC coinsurance lineslip
• U.S. Portal, a junior lineslip for products and grounding liability with a 50 million US dollar limit, aimed at manufacturers and suppliers that need lower limits
• Aviation Product Recall, with a 20 million US dollar limit, designed for tier 2, 3 and 4 suppliers and fitted to the contractual exposure of component makers

How the program works

ABC says it combines a high limit of insurance, loss control and claims handling in one facility, and that it gives the aviation broker community a streamlined way to obtain higher liability limits for aviation and aerospace clients. More than ten large insurers work together in the program, and large brokerage houses cooperate with mid-sized brokers. The council says no other lineslip in aviation and space offers the same benefits, and that the program gives risk managers an alternative to compare with the standard market.

Seminars and conference

The website mentions Product Integrity and Safety Seminars through its defense counsel page, which are complimentary for insureds. ABC also hosts a conference that it says brings the whole aviation marketplace together in one venue.
