Emergency locator transmitter and altitude encoder maker, Santa Clara, California

About ACK Technologies

ACK Technologies, Inc., trading as ACK Avionics, designs, manufactures and supports emergency locator transmitters and altitude encoders at 3350 Scott Blvd, Building 15, Santa Clara, California. The company was founded in 1972 by Mike Akatiff as ACK Products Inc., a maker of motorcycle racing parts, and Pacific Coast Cycle Corporation followed two years later for motorcycle accessories. A low-cost solid-state altitude encoder in 1987 took the company into aviation, and ACK Technologies Inc. was established in 1988. The site states that it has produced more than 230,000 FAA-approved TSO appliances with no airworthiness directives, safety bulletins or recalls.

Products

  • Model E-04 406 MHz emergency locator transmitter for general aviation
  • Model E-04C 406 MHz ELT for commercial aviation, with lithium battery pack, remote control, mounting tray and audio horn listed as major parts
  • Model E-01 121.5 MHz ELT
  • Model A-30 altitude encoder
  • Ameri-King retrofit kits for aircraft fitted with Ameri-King ELTs

The company describes itself as a quality OEM of aircraft products and sells through distributors rather than directly; a distributor list is published on the site. The site carries a technical library with product information and technical guides for the E-04, E-04C and A-30, a parts and repair section with parts lists and repair guidelines for each model, warranty terms, FAQs, reviews and articles (including one on Bell choosing ACK's ELT) and a distributor list. Technical support is by phone or email.

Approvals

All ACK aircraft products are manufactured under FAA TSO Authorization (TSOA), and the facility is audited by the FAA Seattle MIDO and complies with FAR Part 21 Subpart O, with an FAA-approved quality control manual. The site lists approvals from the FAA, EASA, Transport Canada, Brazil's ANAC and Japan's JCAB, and publishes its FAA quality control manual acceptance letter and air agency approval certificates.
