Guides

Buyers

Who uses drone detection and counter-UAS.

  • Airports

To keep drones away from runways and approach paths, so flights do not stop.

  • Prisons

To catch drones that drop phones, drugs or other items over the walls.

  • Stadiums and big events

To protect crowds at matches, concerts and public events.

  • Power plants and critical sites

Energy sites, ports, oil and gas, and water works that must not be watched or hit.

  • Police, military and government

To protect bases, borders, leaders and public buildings.

  • Air navigation providers

To run U-space and drone traffic services beside normal air traffic.

What is counter-UAS?
UAS means unmanned aircraft system, which is a drone and its controls. Counter-UAS, or C-UAS, means the systems that find, track and stop unwanted drones. Some only watch. Others can also take control of the drone, jam it or bring it down.
Who buys drone detection?
Airports, prisons, stadiums and event sites, and critical sites such as power plants, ports and government buildings. The police and the military buy it too. Most buyers start with detection only, because the law on stopping drones is strict.
What is the difference between detection and mitigation?
Detection finds the drone and shows where it is and often where the pilot is. Mitigation stops it, for example by jamming its radio link or taking over its controls. In many countries only the police, the military or the state may use mitigation. Detection is open to more buyers, but check the rules where you are.
What is Remote ID?
Remote ID is like a number plate for drones. The drone sends out its ID and location while it flies, and detection systems and the authorities can read it. The United States and Europe require it for most drones, so a detection system can tell a registered drone from an unknown one.
What is U-space?
U-space is Europe's set of rules and digital services for drone traffic. Other places call it UTM, unmanned traffic management. Service providers share flight plans, give approvals and show where drones are. It helps keep drones apart from each other and from planes.

About this list

This list shows the companies on our drone pages whose own website says they detect, track or stop drones, or run U-space and drone traffic systems. Always confirm what a system does, where it is approved and its price with the company directly. The Flying Engineer is an independent directory and is not linked to any company on this page.
