Danish radar maker Weibel has won a EUR84 million contract to supply its XENTA-M5 radar for Poland's SAN counter-drone programme. The customer is PIT-RADWAR, a Polish defence electronics company. Weibel announced the news on 28 October 2026 and calls it the largest order in its history.

What the radar does

SAN is Poland's new system to find and stop hostile drones, also called counter-UAS. It joins sensors, command software and the tools that respond to a threat. This is part of national air defence, especially on Europe's eastern side.

The XENTA-M5 is the sensor part. It detects, tracks and classifies airborne targets, from small, low-flying drones to aircraft. It keeps updating the air picture, so operators have more time and better data before they decide how to respond.

A big step for Weibel

Weibel says it has delivered more than 6,000 radar systems to customers in over 45 countries. This contract puts its technology into a major European defence programme. The company says it also asks more of its production and delivery capacity. In a company statement, Weibel said the contract "raises the bar" for what it must deliver.

PIT-RADWAR works on radar, command and control, and air defence systems. In this contract it is the buyer of the radar.

Why drone companies care

Drone detection is now a fast growing part of the unmanned aircraft market. As more drones fly in Europe, airports, energy sites and defence forces all need to see them early. Radar is a key tool for that job.
