SITA launches eWAS+, a pilot app that unites weather and flight data in one view

SITA announced SITA eWAS+, a new electronic flight bag app for airline pilots, on 5 November 2026 from Geneva. The app puts weather and operational data in one place for every phase of flight. SITA is an air transport IT and communications company based in Geneva, and the product team is SITA for Aircraft.

What the app shows

According to SITA, the app brings together data from more than 10 certified weather providers and more than 40 weather products, such as turbulence, winds, icing and lightning. It combines this with the planned flight path, airspace and airport information. Pilots see the data on a map and on a vertical profile along the route. SITA calls this 4D operational awareness, which shows how conditions will look at each point when the aircraft gets there. SITA gives the example of choosing a different altitude to avoid clear-air turbulence, which onboard weather radar cannot detect.

It builds on SITA eWAS, which SITA says has been in use for more than 12 years and is used by more than 40,000 pilots at more than 60 airlines.

"Pilots will always make the call, but technology needs to keep evolving to support them with the most crucial information," said Albert Dominguez, Head of Apps and Data at SITA for Aircraft. He said pilots face more data in the cockpit but the same short time to decide. He added that airline and pilot feedback shaped the app, and that SITA plans to keep developing it.

Fuel suggestions and how to get the app

Airlines that also use SITA OptiFlight can see its suggestions inside SITA eWAS+. SITA says OptiFlight suggests changes to the flight profile to cut fuel burn and emissions. In eWAS+, each idea appears next to the weather and operational view, so crews can judge it in climb, cruise and descent. The app has the same features and support on iPadOS and Windows. Airlines can get it through their own private enterprise app stores or the public App Store.
