Universal Avionics data link gets EASA approval for Airbus A320 aircraft
Eirtech Aviation Services has EASA approval to fit Universal Avionics data link equipment on Airbus A320 aircraft, adding text messaging with air traffic control.

Eirtech Aviation Services has won EASA approval to fit Universal Avionics data link equipment on Airbus A320 aircraft. Universal Avionics announced the certification on 29 October 2026.
The approval is a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC), number 10091062. An STC allows a change to an aircraft that is not in its original design. Eirtech first chose the Universal UniLink UL-801 for its A320 upgrade program in 2024.
What the system does
The data link adds ATN B1 Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications, known as CPDLC. It also carries airline operational messages. Pilots and air traffic controllers can send text messages instead of using the radio for some routine calls.
Universal says this can cut pilot workload and mistakes in communication. The system also supports flight planning, en-route flying and access to European airspace.
What the companies said
Dror Yahav, CEO of Universal Avionics, called the certification an important milestone for A320 operators. Michael Sattler, president of Eirtech Aviation Services, said the program reflects years of teamwork across departments.
Universal Avionics is based in Tucson, Arizona, and is part of Elbit Systems. Eirtech is a technical services company that works on airline aircraft upgrades.
Why it matters
The A320 family is one of the most common airliners in the world. Many of these aircraft need data link equipment to meet airspace rules. A certified fit gives their operators another approved choice.
