About Twin Cities Malibu

Twin Cities Malibu is a one-instructor training business in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, run by Ken Reily, CFI and CFII, who has flown since 1996. It gives insurance-accepted initial and recurrent training in the Piper PA-46 and M-Class line, from the piston Malibu, Mirage, Matrix and M350 to the turboprop Meridian, M500 and M600 and the JetProp DLX conversion, and delivers Pilatus PC-12 initial and recurrent courses through a partnership with Aviation Training Management. Reily has over 3,000 hours in the PA-46 line and nearly 3,000 in the PC-12. The company is Twin Cities Malibu LLC.
Training
- PA-46 initial (transition) training for newly bought aircraft, following an industry-standard M-Class syllabus and tailored to the aircraft, the insurance requirements and the pilot's background
- PA-46 recurrent training for existing owners, shorter for pilots already flying the type
- Pilatus PC-12 initial and recurrent, taught by Reily under the ATM partnership with a curriculum parallel to his PA-46 courses
- Specialty aircraft: initial and recurrent training in the ICON A5 (the site says he is one of a small number of ICON-designated A5 instructors worldwide) and instruction in the Cirrus SR22
- Flight reviews, instrument proficiency checks, FAA WINGS credit and proficiency work on request
Courses follow the FAA Industry Training Standards (FITS) and the Airman Certification Standards; each task completed to ACS standard earns FAA WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program credit. Initial courses generally run three to five days and recurrent one to two, one pilot at a time by default or a shared course by arrangement. The site says most underwriters accept the courses toward initial and recurrent requirements.
Cirrus
Cirrus work is a specialty line rather than the main business: the site states that Reily instructs in the Cirrus SR22 alongside the ICON A5, and the same flight review, IPC and proficiency services apply to SR22 pilots.
Beyond training
Reily is chief pilot of 8 Blade Aero, a separate company providing buyer's agent services, aircraft management, ferry and pilot services and a flight operations software platform for owners of the Piper M-Class and PC-12. Outside aviation he has taught computer science at the University of Minnesota since 1996 after a software career with Cargill, Microsoft and 3M, and has served on the board of Lifeline Pilots, a volunteer pilot organisation, since 2012.
