About Toronto Port Authority
The Toronto Port Authority is a federally mandated organization on Toronto's waterfront in Canada. It owns and runs Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, the marine Port of Toronto and the Outer Harbour Marina. The site says it has more than 100 years of history on the waterfront. It began as the Toronto Harbour Commission in 1911.
The authority built Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport in 1939 as Toronto's main airport and still owns and runs it. The site says the airport supports regional air travel, tourism and medical transport. It welcomes two million passengers and has about 2 billion dollars of economic impact each year.
The Port of Toronto covers marine shipping, cargo services and media production. The site says it brings 460 million dollars of economic activity. In 2024 more than 18,000 passengers came through its cruise ship terminal. The Outer Harbour Marina is one of Canada's largest freshwater marinas.
Recent news shows the airport side of the work. In September 2026 the authority held a full emergency exercise at the airport, as required by Transport Canada, with about 150 participants. A runway end safety area project is under way at the island airport. The airport also released an annual ESG report and hosts community events such as Haul for Hope and Girls Take Flight. The authority also posts notices about the Canadian International Air Show and harbour closures.
The authority lists sustainability steps, including a trash trapping program, a fully electric ferry service and the use of Bullfrog Power. It says it has invested more than 30 million dollars in charity and environmental programs since 2009.
The head office is at 207 Queens Quay West, Suite 500, Toronto, Ontario M5J 1A7. The phone number is 416-863-2000. The site has a contact page and a careers page.
