About The Spitfire Company

The Spitfire Company runs passenger flights in two seat Spitfires from airfields across the United Kingdom. Its main base is Biggin Hill Airport in Kent. The site says it is the largest Spitfire operator in the UK and that it has run a CAA approved Spitfire operation since 2015.

The fleet has three two seat Spitfires. The site names a 1943 Spitfire T.9, a 1944 Spitfire VIII trainer and a 1945 Spitfire T.9. It also offers flights in a P-51D Mustang. At the Biggin Hill hangar it shows up to 15 Spitfires and other warbirds, including a Hawker Hurricane, a Messerschmitt 109, a Harvard and a vintage Piper Cub. Some are airworthy and others are being restored.

Flights run from many former wartime airfields. The list includes Biggin Hill, Cotswold, Blackbushe, Norwich, Blackpool, Swansea, Isle of Man, Newquay, Tatenhill, Cranfield, Wolverhampton, Haverfordwest, Southend and Sleap. At Biggin Hill the company says it flies seven days a week and has six different routes. It also has two chase planes for spectator flights and more than ten staff members on site for engineering support and spares.

The company describes itself as a Spitfire flight and restoration facility. Its team includes pilots from military, commercial and civil backgrounds, engineers, ground crew, tour guides and volunteers. Guests get a full briefing before flying. The company also sells a Sit in a Spitfire ticket, where visitors sit in the cockpit of a real aircraft on the ground, and it runs Spitfire tours.

The site shows ratings of 4.9 out of 5 from guest reviews. Visitors can contact the office by phone or through the contact form, and a vacancies page is linked. The site also gives addresses for Biggin Hill and for Cotswold Airport.
