About Tenics

Tenics Software Engineering builds software for space missions from its base in Bremen, Germany. The company was founded in 2021. It writes flight software that runs in orbit and ground software that controls and tests space systems. It also advises teams on how to build space software.

Flight software is its first service. Tenics writes embedded software for units, instruments and satellite subsystems. This software controls and monitors space systems directly in orbit.

Ground software is the second service. Tenics supports operators, integrators and start-ups with software to control, watch and test space systems. This ranges from EGSE tools to full ground control systems. The third service is space software consulting and process engineering. Tenics helps start-ups set up their structures. It also helps existing teams improve their development methods to meet high space standards.

Tenics covers the whole development cycle, from design and build to testing and running the software in orbit. It works to the ECSS and DO-178C standards and combines them with agile methods. It can take on a full project or a single work package. Its clients include makers of unit hardware, satellite prime integrators and space start-ups and scale-ups, mostly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The company also has its own products. Eo.engine is a platform for Earth observation software. SAT.IO is a mission control and mission planning product that automates the operation of large satellite constellations. A third product, unit.engine, is a modular software layer that makes it faster to integrate satellite units.

Tenics works from three places. Bremen is the home base, in the heart of the German space industry. A Vienna office sits in the Space Factory at Airport City Vienna Schwechat, with support from ESA Phi-lab Austria. A Stuttgart team looks after SAT.IO.

The team follows three core values: fair play, open communication and keeping things simple. It works in an agile way, with short decision paths. Its stated aim is a reusable software engine for space missions that cuts development time and risk.
