About Tally Aero

Tally Aero, Inc. builds software that connects pilot skill, flight context and flight records with the aim of reducing aviation losses and informing aviation insurance. The structured data on its site gives a founding year of 2026. Its team combines flight instruction, aircraft maintenance, learning science and mission software engineering, and the site describes the product as operational infrastructure for lower-loss aviation.

Products

  • Flight File: a record of each flight consolidating the mission, conditions, aircraft, pilot, decisions and outcome, used for debrief, structured practice, school oversight and programme analysis
  • Structured practice: training pilots to process radio traffic, track aircraft and position, interpret procedures and airspace, communicate, make decisions and execute
  • Flight Corpus: structured Flight Files retained for risk analysis and contingency planning
  • Atlas: a searchable index of public FAA, NTSB and Federal Register records, including NTSB preliminaries from the last 90 days, TSO authorisations, equivalent level of safety findings, special conditions, FAA orders and SAIBs, each linked to the agency that published it; the site states that it does not score aircraft or rate pilots
  • The Lower-Loss Aviation Program, which brings pilots, flight schools, operators and insurance partners together to validate interventions in real flight activity and build the evidence for a more informed insurance system

Team

Steven Shaw, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and F/A-18 pilot and instructor with aerospace engineering and educational psychology research, leads the work on pilot skill, flight records and safety analysis. CTO John Hohm led development of WIDOW, a Department of Defense mission planning system, and holds a Cornell master's degree in computer science. John Goglia, a former NTSB Board Member (1995 to 2004), advises the company on safety.
