Shikibo
Fiber and textile technology, industrial and functional materials, Japan
About Shikibo
Shikibo Ltd. is a Japanese fibre and textile company. It has been engaged in manufacturing since its founding, and it describes its strength as a material maker as its steadfast zeal and spirit of inquiry. The company's inherited core is its textile business, which started the group's work with fibres.
From the textile business, Shikibo developed the technology for its industrial materials business and its functional materials business. Its functional materials include composite materials and food and chemical products, such as thickening and stabilising agents for food. Its range also includes fibre products for industrial and water infrastructure use.
Shikibo's products include the FISCO cotton fabric with a silk-like sheen, the AZEK functional fabric with breathable structure, and the saisei upcycling system, which reuses discarded clothing and offcuts. CottResin is a resin material made from cotton waste from production. The company also supplies base materials and parts for aerospace and energy applications.
The group extends its business into real estate and services. It uses its own land and buildings for rental, including large composite facilities in Himeji and Kochi rented to distribution companies, a one-room apartment building in Kusatsu, and warehouses in Hamamatsu. It also runs a linen supply business, a distribution business and a mega solar facility at its Toyama plant.
Research and development is a stated priority. The company says it uses advanced technology to make higher quality products, and it aims to produce safe, reliable and comfortable products and services that help build a cheerful society.
The company publishes information on sustainability management, a business continuity policy, a message from the president, corporate information, IR material, financial statements and general meetings of shareholders. In October 2026 it joined the Ministry of the Environment's sustainable fashion partner programme.
