About Scottish Aero Club

The Scottish Aero Club is a private flying club based at Perth Airport in Scotland. The site describes it as Scotland's oldest and largest aero club. Membership is open to people with an interest in aviation.

The club was formed from two earlier clubs. The Scottish Flying Club was founded in 1927 in Renfrew. The Strathtay Aero Club was founded in 1936 in Perth. The two merged in 1956 to form the Scottish Aero Club.

The club says it has three main goals. These are to encourage sport and recreational aviation, to keep costs down, and to attract and keep members. It offers four membership types: pilots, student, associate and junior.

The club runs the largest general aviation hangar in Scotland, according to the site. It provides year-round hangarage for more than 90 aircraft. It also offers aircraft hire and aircraft services. Alba Airsports is the training provider for the club, offering learn to fly courses for NPPL, PPL(G) and private training.

Perth Airport has three runways, two tarmac and one grass. The site says it is the only Scottish airport that offers all types of flight training. The club also runs fly-ins, social and charity events, and lectures in the autumn and winter. It is the base for the Light Aviation Association Strathtay Strut and the Scottish office of AOPA.

Hangar tours are available for small groups by prior arrangement, except on Mondays and Thursdays. The club's office phone number is 01738 550055. Requests can be sent through the office address on the contact page.
