About Sceye

Sceye is an aerospace company that builds stratospheric platforms, also called high altitude platform systems, or HAPS. Its headquarters is at 50 George Applebay Way in Moriarty, New Mexico. It also has a Sceye Tech office in Zug, Switzerland. The company was founded in 2014 by Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen.

The platform is an airship. The site says the airship form lets it stay over one area for long periods while it lifts and powers more payload than balloons or fixed wing aircraft. It is solar powered during the day and battery powered at night. The site says it does not use rocket fuel or single use balloons.

The site describes two services. Connectivity means direct to cellphone broadband from the stratosphere, which the site says can replace ground infrastructure at lower cost. Observation means earth observation with sensors that track greenhouse gases, ground elevation, plant health, and soil and mineral composition.

The site says the company developed ways to keep helium, store energy, and cut the weight of key parts. It says these methods were needed to build the platform. The company's hangar is in Southern New Mexico, which the site describes as a place with a long record of stratospheric flight.

The founder, Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen, previously founded Vestergaard and LifeStraw. The site says Vestergaard has distributed more than one billion insecticide-treated nets. It says LifeStraw has provided clean drinking water to more than 11 million children.

The site has news, press releases, a blog, a careers page, and a newsroom. The contact page lists an info email address and a press email address. Social media accounts are listed on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
