About Active Safety System Technologies

Active Safety System Technologies is an aerospace company based in Michigan. It develops proprietary safety systems that protect soldiers and citizens, on the battlefield and at home.

The company focuses on bringing new technologies to North America. Its work falls into two areas. One is safety systems for VTOL aircraft, drones and light aircraft. The other is protection systems for armored vehicles.

For aircraft, the company offers Active VTOL crash prevention to help in an emergency. This includes a new approach to ballistic recovery parachutes and AI systems that find landing sites on their own. eVTOL aircraft have many safety systems, but they cannot glide down like helicopters after a major event such as a large bird strike. The Emergency Descent Arrest System, called EDAS, works automatically. It gives a safe, controlled landing when everything else fails.

The company is also developing a Look-Down system. It uses video and artificial intelligence to watch the ground under the flight path all the time. It then picks out the best landing sites. This matters most when an emergency happens over a busy city.

For armored vehicles, the company supplies active and passive protection systems through Advanced Blast and Ballistic Systems. When a vehicle hits a mine or an IED, it can be thrown upward very fast. The crew can be badly hurt by that sudden upward push alone. The company's systems work against the blast forces and aim to prevent injuries. They can also work with other active protection systems to give 360 degree cover against all threats.

Other work includes a minefield breaching vehicle concept and mine-resilient uncrewed ground vehicles. The company showed minefield breaching and uncrewed vehicle concepts at the International Armoured Vehicle conference in January 2024. It also writes about traumatic brain injury in armored vehicles that are not penetrated.
