Saudi Air Navigation Services (SANS)

Saudi Air Navigation Services Company (SANS) is the national provider of air navigation services across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Established in 2016, it manages all air traffic movements within Saudi airspace covering more than 2 million square kilometers. The company handles more than one million annual air traffic movements including domestic, international, and overflights.

SANS operates 14 control towers and 5 flight information service towers, including a virtual control tower. It also runs 2 area control centers responsible for monitoring overflying aircraft and ensuring safe and efficient traffic flow. The company is staffed by over 1,900 professionals, including 700+ air traffic controllers and 340 engineers and maintenance technicians working across 54 locations covering airports, remotely operated sites, and military airports.

The company provides a full range of air traffic services such as aerodrome control tower operations, approach control, area control services, and search and rescue (SAR) coordination. SAR services include monitoring distress signals, coordinating rescue operations at local, regional, and international levels, and participating in national emergency response plans in cooperation with relevant authorities and international bodies like COSPAS-SARSAT and ICAO.

SANS emphasizes safety, operational efficiency, and adoption of digital technologies. It manages over 1,200 navigational systems supporting communications, surveillance, and operational infrastructure. The company also undertakes more than 40 projects including air traffic surveillance systems and air navigation infrastructure modernization. Its annual reports and sustainability reports demonstrate ongoing commitments to transparency and strategic development.

The company serves the whole Kingdom and neighboring countries providing distress-alert notifications regionally to seven neighboring states. It is fully compliant with international aviation safety and quality standards under the guidance of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and ICAO. SANS aligns its vision with Saudi Vision 2030 and continues expanding its capabilities toward future airspace concepts, advanced air mobility, and unmanned aircraft management.
