About Sanford AirMed

Sanford AirMed is the air ambulance service of Sanford Health. The site says it takes off within minutes of a call from Bemidji, Bismarck, Dickinson, Fargo or Sioux Falls. Its fleet includes helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and ground ambulances.

Sanford AirMed can fly patients from the scene of an emergency to the hospital. It also flies scheduled and emergency medical flights between facilities. The site says the service is available every hour of every day.

The in-flight care team includes registered nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other medical staff. The site says Sanford Health has full-time pilots and mechanics for its medical helicopters. The team cares for adult, neonatal, obstetric and pediatric patients.

The site says more than 100,000 patients have flown with the service. It says the service has been flying for more than four decades. The fleet travels more than 400,000 miles a year. The service is accredited by CAMTS, and the Sanford Health aviation department is accredited by the Business Aviation Safety Consortium.

The site says the service provides safety training for hospitals and attends community events with a flyover or a vehicle on display. Members pay no out of pocket charges for time-critical transport. Memberships are not available to Montana residents at this time. The site says the service contracts with most major health insurers.
