Penn Yan Aero

Penn Yan Aero is an aircraft piston engine overhaul shop at 2499 Bath Road, Penn Yan, New York, on the airport near the village of Penn Yan (PEO) in the Finger Lakes region. It was established in 1945 by Harold Middlebrook and has been owned and managed by the Middlebrook family since then. The company describes itself as the world's oldest independent aircraft engine overhaul facility and a Lycoming and Continental engine distributor. It works only on engines: no removals or installations.

Overhauled engines carry a three-year warranty, or until the OEM time between overhaul in force at the time of overhaul expires, whichever comes first. The site says the warranty is transferable and supported worldwide.

STC engine upgrades

The SuperHawk STC converts Cessna 172 models I, K, L, M, N and P from 150 or 160 horsepower to a 180 horsepower Lycoming O-360-A4M, with an approved Sensenich propeller, STC documents, installation instructions and conversion hardware. Penn Yan Aero says it has supplied thousands of SuperHawk conversions since 1983, and quotes test results from its own Cessna 172 of cruise speeds up to 151 mph and a climb rate of up to 1,020 feet per minute at 2,400 pounds. The STC page also lists RAM 160 and DeltaHawk conversion options and an online STC selector for Cessna and Piper aircraft.
