Pangea Propulsion
Rocket engines and green in-space propulsion
About Pangea Propulsion
Pangea Propulsion designs, tests and manufactures chemical rocket engines for space vehicles, from small satellites to large launchers. Operating as Pangea Aerospace, S.L., the company pivoted from launcher development to engine specialisation in 2022 and rebranded from Pangea Aerospace to Pangea Propulsion to focus on propulsion for the European space sector. It states that it is the only company to have successfully hot-fire tested an aerospike engine with methane and liquid oxygen.
Products
- Nereus family: a modular, scalable in-space propulsion system built around monopropellant and bipropellant engines for satellites, orbital transfer vehicles, space tugs and landers, available as individual thrusters or as a complete system with tanks, feed system and avionics
- Nereus 20 monopropellant thruster: a storable, non-toxic propellant with specific impulse comparable to hydrazine, for station keeping and orbit adjustment on small satellites, used on programmes including PES 3D and Orbital Paradigm
- Nereus 20 bipropellant: higher specific impulse for rapid manoeuvres and longer operations, as a sustainable alternative to toxic bipropellants
- Large liquid rocket engines, including a very high power engine selected by CNES
Technologies
Pangea's expertise covers liquid rocket engine design, advanced materials for extreme temperature, pressure and oxidation, copper alloys for cooling heavily loaded components, materials compatible with hydrogen peroxide, and manufacturing by laser powder bed fusion, hybrid additive and subtractive processes on robotic arms, and proprietary precision processes. The company built and tested the first bi-material combustion chamber in Europe.
Company
Pangea raised 23 million euros in a Series A round. Its six-person founding team represents three nationalities and the staff more than fourteen, and chief executive Adria Argemi received the XXXIII Young Entrepreneur Award from AIJEC.
