About Orbitalnet

Orbitalnet, Inc. is a Japanese company that builds geospatial solutions using satellite images, aerial photos, point clouds and AI. Its motto is engineering geospatial intelligence with FOSS4G, GIS and AI.

The company supports open-source GIS. It helps customers set up QGIS, PostGIS and WebGIS. It prepares, converts and visualizes geospatial data, and it builds GIS applications for business needs. It also offers operations, training and technical support. One example is a fixed asset information system that runs as a QGIS plugin and as a web version.

In geospatial AI, the company applies AI to satellite images, aerial photos and point clouds. It extracts features such as buildings, roads and solar panels. It detects change and helps read disaster damage. It also turns building shapes into clean GIS data and helps check the results. A product called Segmentation+ shows these tools, with examples of GIS overlays.

Orbitalnet also offers AI as an online service. Users upload photos in a web browser, review the results and download result images one by one or as a ZIP file. The service is marked as launching soon.

Research and development is a major part of the work. Sat2LOD creates simple 3D building models from one satellite image, using monocular depth estimation. The models reach LOD1 and LOD2 level. The company uses them in a demo that estimates sunlight on roofs. DINO-EdgeQuery predicts building edges and links with AI to produce building polygons for GIS. SpatialArrow keeps the master geospatial data and creates the inputs that AI models need at run time.

The company also shows demos of AI super-resolution on aerial photos of Nagoya, and a 3D city model of Nagoya that maps the solar panel installations found by AI.

Orbitalnet appears at industry events in Japan. It has exhibited at SPEXA, a space business show at Tokyo Big Sight, at Geo Expo 2026 and at G-space EXPO 2026. It sponsored FOSS4G Hiroshima 2026 at bronze level and gave a talk there.
