Norton Aviation

Norton Aviation, LLC is a pilot training company in Longboat Key, Florida, that trains owners and pilots of very light jets in their own aircraft. Instructors travel to the aircraft's location and train on the customer's schedule. The company says it has trained and type-rated more than 900 pilots in very light jets, many of them moving into their first jet.

Training programs

• Initial type rating: ground and flight training for single-pilot and two-pilot operations. The Eclipse course runs 10 consecutive days; Phenom 100 courses run 4 days (accelerated, for experienced jet pilots) or 7 days (standard)
• Recurrent training: two-day annual program with systems review and a FAR 61.58 proficiency check
• Mentoring: one to seven days of flying with an instructor after the check ride, covering flight planning, fuel management, weather avoidance and RVSM operations
• Type rating check rides with FAA Designated Pilot Examiners on staff
• Optional extras such as a jet pilot transition course, flight skills assessment, upset recovery training, second-in-command endorsement and companion training
