About Motorfluggruppe Zurich

Motorfluggruppe Zurich, known as MFGZ, is a flying club and flight school at Zurich Airport in Switzerland. The club was founded in 1928 and has trained pilots since 1929. It describes itself as the oldest and largest flying group in Switzerland and one of the largest flight schools in the country.

The club is run under its own statutes, and its members have wide say in how it is run. Members enjoy demanding flying in an international setting. The club is a community of pilots who share a passion for flying, as it has been since the early days of the club.

The flight school trains private pilots. Its basis is a team of experienced flight instructors, good infrastructure and an attractive range of courses. Students work toward a private pilot licence. Pilots who already hold a licence can take further flying training, with support at each stage of their own flying career.

European Flight Training trips are a popular part of the offer. In May 2025, five crews flew for five days to Malta. The route passed the volcano Stromboli, and the trip was flown despite a low pressure system called Ines.

The club also offers scenic flights from Zurich Airport. The routes take in remote mountain villages, lakes, the Jungfrau massif and the Matterhorn. The club says these flights show the Swiss landscape from its most spectacular angle.

Flight maintenance has been part of the club for more than forty years. It offers a broad range of maintenance and repair services for many types of aircraft. The work follows European rules and is carried out to a high standard.

The club also takes part in discussions on airspace and safety. In December 2024 it sent a statement to the Federal Office of Civil Aviation about a planned limit on slow moving IFR traffic at Zurich Airport. In 2023, 26 members visited Zurich fire and rescue services at the General Aviation Center to learn how to act in emergencies.
