Montréal International
Greater Montréal's investment promotion agency since 1996
About Montréal International
Montréal International (MI) is the economic promotion agency for Greater Montréal. Created in 1996, it is a non-profit organisation financed by the private sector, the governments of Canada and Québec, the Montréal Metropolitan Community and the City of Montréal. Its mandates are to attract foreign direct investment, international organisations, entrepreneurs and skilled international workers and students to the region, and it supports companies with set-up, expansion, international recruitment and immigration procedures.
Aerospace in Greater Montréal
MI presents Greater Montréal as one of the world's largest aerospace hubs, where commercial aircraft, business jets, helicopters, engines and simulators are designed and built. The region has six prime OEMs, close to fifteen major equipment manufacturers and a wide network of subcontractors and suppliers; Bombardier is headquartered in the city. The agency points to a skilled workforce, specialised aerospace training programmes, free-trade access to international markets and the most competitive operating costs among the 20 largest cities in Canada and the United States. Montréal is also a decision-making centre in civil aviation as the home of ICAO and IATA.
Sustainable aviation and space
The region is working on decarbonisation through hybrid-electric engine development, lightweight wing design and sustainable aviation fuels, and hosts eVTOL developers such as Beta Technologies, Dufour Aerospace, Wisk Aero and Jaunt Mobility, as well as drone and autonomy expertise. The Espace Aéro innovation zone has announced projects totalling 415 million dollars, including a 240 million dollar investment from Boeing, with a new aerospace development centre, hybrid and electric propulsion and next-generation flight controls. More than one hundred Montréal companies work in space, including Telesat, MDA and ABB, alongside the Canadian Space Agency.
Other sectors
MI also promotes artificial intelligence, clean technology, life sciences and health technologies, and defence and security. Recent announcements on its site include Simpro Group's AI research centre and Mace Consult's expansion to support the Alto high-speed rail project.
