Mecaer Aviation Group (MAG)

Mecaer Aviation Group, also called MAG, is an aeronautical company based in Italy. It provides aircraft systems and services. Its markets are helicopters, business aviation and general aviation. The site says it holds approvals from regulators, military groups, industry and customers.

The group has two business units. The first is Integrated Aircraft Systems. It has two lines, which are actuation and flight control systems, and landing systems. The second is Aircraft Services. It also has two lines, which are cabin interiors, and aircraft MRO and mission customization.

The first unit develops and builds primary systems for actuation and landing. Actuation means the parts that move flight controls and landing gear. The design office and test labs work with mechanical, hydraulic, electromechanical and electronic technologies. The group also uses technologies it owns.

The second unit designs, builds, maintains and customizes cabin interiors for helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. It offers completion, refurbishment and maintenance work. The goal is an aircraft that fits the mission of its end customer or operator. The group owns systems for noise reduction and cabin management.

The company was founded in 1995 through a buy-out by private investors. Its roots lie in two older Italian firms. One is SIAI Marchetti Agusta in Borgomanero, a plant that built airframes since the early 1900s. The other is Breda Nardi in Monteprandone, central Italy.

The group bought the Agusta Monteprandone site in 2001. In 2000 it acquired Performance LT in Laval, near Montreal. That move brought landing gear manufacturing for North American customers. MAG Inc. in Philadelphia opened to support the Agusta final assembly line in the United States.

The site says production follows a lean approach, and customers get support for the life of each product. It also notes a plan for a surface treatment facility in Laval. The website currently asks visitors to write to the company directly while it is being upgraded.
