Louisiana Tech University

Louisiana Tech University is a public university in Ruston, Louisiana. It was founded in 1894. Its School of Aviation offers two degree programs, Professional Aviation and Aviation Management.

The School of Aviation has been part of the university since 1967. It is a member of the University Aviation Association. It is accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI). Both of its bachelor degrees are AABI accredited.

Flight operations are based at the Ruston Regional Airport. In 2017 the school added a fleet of 12 Cessna Skyhawk and Piper Arrow aircraft. The school offers ground, simulator and flight training through the year.

Admission to the School of Aviation is competitive. Applicants to the flying program need an FAA Class 1 medical certificate. The application deadline is January 15 of the year before entry. Graduating high school seniors and transfer students need a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 23 ACT or 1130 SAT score. Every applicant must complete a campus visit.

The site says selection depends on application date, cumulative GPA and standardized test scores. Admission to the university does not guarantee a place in either aviation program. Applicants are encouraged to apply at least one academic year before they plan to start.

The school has aviation management cooperative agreements with the Louisiana Airport Managers Association and several fixed base operators in the region. Students take internships with major air carriers, regional airlines, corporate aviation and government organizations.

The university runs on a quarter system, and three quarters equal two semesters at other universities.
