About Hunspace

Hunspace is the Hungarian Space Industry Cluster, a network of space companies, universities and research centres based in Miskolc, Hungary. It works to speed up space activity in Hungary and to build a strong national space economy.

The cluster acts as a hub for researchers, entrepreneurs and educators. It aims to bring together academia, government, industry and the public. It says its goal is to help Hungary become a key player in the global space sector.

Its members include engineering firms, instrument makers, data and software companies, and universities and research institutes. They work across 26 technology areas. These include on-board data systems, space system software, spacecraft electrical power, RF subsystems and payloads, flight dynamics and GNSS, ground station systems, mechanisms, optics, propulsion, structures, thermal systems, and materials and manufacturing. The cluster says its members cover more than 20 of these 26 areas at TRL9 level.

Hunspace groups its fields of collaboration into four areas. These are downstream services, complex satellite missions, satellite subsystems and science-driven payloads. Members are also described as active in international projects.

Recent projects include work on the Sentinel-2 satellite family. Several Hunspace members took part, led by Admatis, on an order from Airbus Defence and Space for four flight models. Another project is RADCUBE, a 3U CubeSat mission that tests small on-board instruments. A third is OWL, a VHF transmitter that sends short messages. The HiReL project showed a manufacturing capability in work with the Czech company G.L. Electronic.

Each year, the Hungarian Astronautical Society publishes the Hungarian Space Kaleidoscope, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It presents the players in the Hungarian space sector. The cluster also publishes a long-term space strategy for Hungary and offers an entry form for new members.
