Hartzell Propeller Service Center

Hartzell's factory propeller repair, overhaul and exchange shop in Piqua, Ohio

About Hartzell Propeller Service Center

The Hartzell Propeller Service Center is the factory propeller repair and overhaul shop of Hartzell Propeller at One Propeller Place in Piqua, Ohio, next to the company's manufacturing plant. It operates as FAA repair station SJ3R843L and works only on the Hartzell product line. Because Hartzell's product support, engineering, manufacturing and quality teams are on the same site, the service center says unusual problems can be looked at first hand and solutions developed on the spot. Customers can fly in to Piqua Airport (I17), where the shop removes, reinstalls and dynamically balances propellers, or use its regional pick up and delivery service.

Services

  • Propeller repair and overhaul with the same surface treatments, plating and anodising used in the Hartzell factory
  • Composite blade repair, including factory-only repairs such as ground strike damage where the blade is rebuilt in a mould to its type certificated design
  • CNC and CMM precision repairs and machining
  • Full immersion penetrant inspection and other non destructive testing on Hartzell factory equipment
  • Electronic static balancing and dynamic balancing on the aircraft
  • Genuine Hartzell replacement parts from its own inventory
  • Propeller and governor exchange program for operators who cannot wait for an overhaul
  • Sales of new Hartzell Top Prop and Raisbeck STC propellers, with a trade-in program, plus repaired or rebuilt used propellers and parts, and purchase of pre-owned propellers
  • Fleet maintenance plans and fleet pricing

The shop says most repairs are completed within two to three weeks and gives guaranteed lead and delivery times. All its repairs carry a two year or 2,000 flight hour workmanship warranty, whichever comes first. Existing customers can track the progress of a repair online. Fly-in customers can use Ohio's sales tax exemption for general aviation aircraft.

Cirrus

The service center repairs and overhauls the Hartzell propellers fitted to Cirrus aircraft and lists the Cirrus SR20 and Cirrus SR22 in its propeller exchange program, alongside the Beech 1900, King Air 90, 200 and 300 series, Cessna 208, Daher TBM, Diamond DA40, Pilatus PC-12, Piper Seminole and Twin Otter. Under the exchange program the shop assembles a propeller from new and overhauled parts and ships or delivers it, the owner returns the core with its time since new, and the final invoice reflects a normal base overhaul plus any core parts that fail inspection; the exchange fee is currently 1% of the propeller's list price (rates change; confirm with the company). Governor exchanges can be arranged the same way.

Approvals

FAA Air Agency Certificate (repair station SJ3R843L), EASA certification and a United Kingdom Part 145 approval are published on the documents page.

Team

The site names a leadership team of eight, including a director of MRO sales and business development, three service account managers, an operations manager, a quality manager, a chief inspector and an SPS quality assurance manager, supported by propeller technicians trained on Hartzell products.
