About Grad

Gradescope is a grading platform for instructors. It helps them give exams, homework and code assignments online or in class. The site is aimed mainly at universities and teachers.

Instructors can use their existing paper assignments. They can scan student work. Students can upload PDFs or photos of their work. Students can also submit code from GitHub and Bitbucket.

The grading tools include rubrics, answer keys and partial credit. Instructors can give detailed feedback and apply rubric changes to work already graded. The site also describes an autograder for code.

Bubble sheets are scanned in batches and sorted by test version. The system marks them against the answer key, and the instructor confirms the marks.

Gradescope gives statistics for each question and each rubric item. Grades can be sent to students with one click or exported to a gradebook. Regrade requests can be handled online.

The site lists usage numbers. It says more than 700 million questions have been graded. It also lists over 2,600 universities, more than 140,000 instructors and over 3.2 million students.

The site features comments from instructors at UC Berkeley, the University of Chile, Minnesota State University Mankato, Florida Gulf Coast University and Virginia Tech. The subjects listed include computer science, physics, math, chemistry, biology, engineering and economics.
