Gear Manufacturing Inc.

Gear Manufacturing Inc., known as GMI, makes custom gears, machined parts and assemblies in Anaheim, California. All products are built to order, from prototypes through full production.

GMI was founded in 1989 to meet demand for better delivery times on high quality custom gear products. The company has been in business for more than thirty years. It supplies precision products to the aerospace, defense, medical, commercial oil, power and automotive industries.

GMI is a full fabrication machine shop with CNC capability in most areas. It keeps nearly all machining in-house, which cuts lead times and cost. Its in-house work includes CNC turning, milling, ID and OD grinding, hobbing, shaping, internal and external gear grinding, form grinding and wire EDM. The shop also does gundrilling and precision honing. It builds assemblies and kits, including mechanical and electromechanical gearboxes.

The machine list covers 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machines, horizontal and vertical milling, and lathes. Some lathes are multi-task turn-mill machines with live tooling and bar feeders. Gear cutting handles parts from a quarter inch to 33 inches in diameter. Gear grinding handles parts up to 19.7 inches in diameter, to AGMA Class 14.

GMI says it is no stranger to complicated, tight-tolerance parts. It specializes in taking orders that other shops turn down. Its metrology lab includes two M and M gear analyzers, a Mitutoyo Legex 574 CNC CMM, a Hexagon Global S CNC CMM and a MahrShaft Scope+ 750 optical shaft measuring system. It also uses analytical gear checkers.

GMI is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D, and it is ITAR registered. The company says it keeps investing in equipment to keep up with demand.
