FluidNow
Automated rapid volume infuser for air medical and emergency care
About FluidNow
FluidNow makes an automated rapid volume infuser for emergency, trauma, critical care and air medical transport. The company calls the device the provider’s automated rapid volume infuser, designed by providers for providers, and its purpose is to keep an IV infusion moving so clinicians can focus on the patient rather than on squeezing a bag by hand.
The device is meant for any patient who needs fluid resuscitation or arterial line monitoring. FluidNow says it was designed and tested for air EMS use, so that critical care transport is never grounded by equipment limits.
How the infuser works
- Bag pressure never drops below 245 mmHg, and the device continuously returns it to a full 300 mmHg
- Fully automated delivery, which frees the clinician’s hands for physical assessment and other instruments
- Alerts for low flow and a nearly empty bag
- Standard IV administration sets, rather than a proprietary tubing
- Three modes: RAPID, KVO 50 and ART 300
- Dynamic pressurisation for a consistent flow
What is in a system
A system is listed as one FluidNow IV bag pressure infuser with a one year warranty, two FluidNow IV pressure bags and a wall charger. The company notes that the device is designed for professional use, and that product availability, pricing and final specifications are subject to confirmation.
Why crews use it
FluidNow argues that manual pumping is inconsistent and keeps a provider tied to the bag. Offloading that task lets crews attend to other physiologic problems, look after other patients on scene, and spend more time on communication and documentation. Its website shows use cases in ambulance response, critical care transport, the emergency trauma bay and air medical flights.
