FAUN Trackway USA, Inc.

FAUN Trackway USA is the US arm of the FAUN Trackway brand, which makes portable aluminium roadway, runway and helipad systems. The brand says it has over 75 years of expertise in design and manufacture. Its systems are used for defence, disaster relief and industrial work. The US office is in Arlington, Virginia.

The company is organised in three divisions. Trackway Defence serves military users with ground mobility systems and air systems. These include helicopter, aircraft and UAV landing mats and rapid runway repair. Trackway Access serves civil and industrial users who need temporary access over rough ground, with boat ramp, roadway and aircraft recovery kits. Trackway Engineering handles bespoke engineering work.

The landing mats are modular panel systems. They allow temporary runways and expeditionary airfields to be built quickly in places where permanent infrastructure is impractical or takes too long. Past projects have included bridges, torpedo boats, half-track Land Rovers and London buses.

The panels are made with advanced manufacturing techniques that aim to limit ecological disruption and protect sensitive ground. Each panel is made from 100% recyclable materials. The panels are built to withstand repeated deployment in demanding field conditions.

Customer quotes come mainly from defence buyers in Sweden, Switzerland and Denmark. They include the Swedish Army, Armasuisse and the Swedish Engineer School. The Norwegian Army also bought the Heavy Ground Mobility System after extensive trials. Customers describe projects delivered ahead of schedule and equipment that works in extreme climates, including arctic conditions.

The brand dates back to 1940, when Laird Anglesey Ltd repaired Catalina flying boats in Wales. Trackway systems for the UK Ministry of Defence followed in 1960. In 1996 the company was acquired by FAUN GmbH, part of the Kirchhoff group, a family run German group of engineering and manufacturing companies. FAUN Trackway USA was set up to give North and South America and Canada a local office.
