Evolution Aircraft

Evolution Aircraft Company is a high-performance personal aircraft manufacturer based in Redmond, Oregon, producing the Evolution, a pressurised four or five place owner-built aircraft offered in turbine and piston versions. The Evolution is described as the first digital kit aircraft, designed in SOLIDWORKS with extensive finite element analysis and aerodynamic modelling so that an owner-builder can assemble it in 1,500 hours or less with virtually no customisation. More than 85 Evolutions are flying with over 25,000 fleet hours.

Models

• Evolution Turbine, powered by the Pratt and Whitney PT6A-135A, which the company calls the best performing four place aircraft available, with speeds approaching those of jets
• Evolution Piston, powered by Lycoming, offering the same comfort, safety and looks in a more efficient and cost-effective package
• In April 2017 the company expanded its line-up from two to four models, adding the PT6-powered EVOT-550 and EVOT-850 alongside the Evolution Piston 350 and Evolution Turbine 750, under president Kevin Eldredge
• A ballistic parachute recovery system is available on all Evolution aircraft, and the company says it is the only kit manufacturer able to sell the Garmin GFC700 autopilot

Building and support

• A two-week pre-build programme in Redmond leaves the airframe structurally complete and ready for systems installation; an aircraft can be ready to fly about seven months later
• Most customers team up with one of the Approved Build and Support Centers inspected and promoted by the company, located in Caldwell, Idaho; Bend, Oregon; Mesa, Arizona; Milan, Tennessee; Port Orange, Florida; Lincoln Park, New Jersey and Lexington, Kentucky
• Expert inspections and test flights by certified professionals on completion, with three days of transition training (minimum 10 hours) and the first recurrent training day after one year included in the kit price, and certified instructors available for the required 40 hours of test flying
• A certified resale programme for used Evolutions, each inspected by factory technicians with maintenance brought up to date, plus a customer portal, FAQ and blog on experimental aircraft, research and safety
