Dornier Museum Friedrichshafen

The Dornier Museum Friedrichshafen is an aviation and space museum in Friedrichshafen, Germany, on Lake Constance. It stands right next to the airport. Its core message is that everyone can be a pioneer.

The museum brings 100 years of aviation and space history to life. Its building looks like an aircraft hangar. Across about 6,000 square metres, it shows nearly 400 exhibits. These include 14 original aircraft, one helicopter and seven full-size space exhibits. It also has two full-scale replicas, of the Dornier Merkur and the Dornier Wal. The museum calls itself the largest technology museum on Lake Constance. It aims to appeal to technology fans, history lovers and friends of aviation, whether they come alone, with friends or as a family.

Visitors can join guided tours and group offers. There is a mystery tour through the museum, a virtual reality space experience that shows Earth from 400 kilometres up as if on the International Space Station, and a Do 27 flight simulator. A media guide gives videos and stories on a smartphone. The museum also offers a digital collection and a virtual 360 degree tour. Families can join a pop-up planetarium and holiday programmes, and children can book birthday parties.

The museum also holds talks and cultural events. A robotics talk series brings science and industry together, with its next session on humanoid robotics on 19 November 2026. The museum calls itself a cultural meeting place on Lake Constance, with talks, concerts and food evenings.

The museum can be hired for events. It offers event spaces and rooms for meetings, seminars, Christmas parties and weddings. Weddings in the aircraft hangar can host up to 600 guests next to the airfield. The DO-X Restaurant serves guests in the building, and a museum shop sells gifts. The museum also has pages on Claude Dornier, a friends circle and a foundation.
