Derby Aero Club and Flying School

The Derby Aero Club and Flying School is owned and operated by Airspeed Aviation Ltd, a family owned and run general aviation company based at Derby Airfield in Egginton, near Derby, England. The club provides a friendly atmosphere and serves the general aviation community throughout the United Kingdom. Flying with the club as a student, private owner, or solo hirer offers access to knowledgeable staff and the central England region.

The flying school offers training for complete beginners and experienced pilots. Trial flying lessons are available, and vouchers can be purchased as gifts. The club also welcomes private owners and solo hirers who fly from the airfield.

Airspeed Aviation Ltd is a CAA approved light aircraft maintenance company. It has held continuous CAA approval since 1982 and is currently approved under CAA Part CAO and BCAR M3 to maintain all types of fixed wing light aircraft up to 2730kg. The company can also support FAA registered aircraft for routine maintenance and avionics work.

The company was founded in 1982 as a light aircraft maintenance company at Nottingham Airport. It later moved to Burnaston and then to its current site between Hilton and Egginton. Derby Airfield opened in August 1992 and received its CAA aerodrome licence in 1993. It is the only CAA licensed aerodrome in Derbyshire. The facilities have grown over the years.

The site includes an over 10,000 square foot purpose built maintenance hangar with capacity for many aircraft, including modern and vintage types. The company offers scheduled maintenance, ARC renewals, routine servicing, defect rectification, engine overhauls, and avionics upgrades. It also installs performance modifications such as Power Flow tuned exhaust systems and Cessna Flap Gap Seals.

The company specializes in Cessna 177 Cardinal aircraft, Beagle B121 Pups and Bulldogs, and DeHavilland DHC1 Chipmunks. It is approved to overhaul and repair most piston engines fitted to light aircraft, including all Lycoming and Continental engines. It also supports vintage engines and parts such as the Gipsy Major and BTH magnetos, and provides full support for LAA permit aircraft.
