CymSTAR

CymSTAR is a US training systems integrator headquartered at 1501 SW Expressway Drive in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, with further sites at 12214 East 55th Street South in Tulsa and in La Vista, Nebraska. The company specialises in defence and aerospace engineering and training services and simulation products for all branches of the US Armed Forces, allied nations and aerospace organisations, principally the modification, upgrade, design, development, integration and sustainment of training systems. Led by engineers and veterans, it employs a workforce of more than 200 people in the United States and is ISO 9001:2015 certified.

Simulation products

• CymLITE Series: cost-effective, lightweight and deployable aircrew, maintenance and mission trainers using extended reality (XR), with a compact footprint, remote updates and a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) for rapid upgrades, covering applications such as air refuelling, taxiing, take-off and landing, formation flight and mission rehearsal
• CymLITE-ATLAS XR aircrew trainer and Virtual Flight Deck trainer, offering mixed-reality training with certified aircraft data, scalable from individual task trainers to full-mission crew configurations and interoperable across platforms including the C-5, C-17, C-130, KC-46 and KC-135
• CymLITE-FPV and CymLITE-MCS products in the same series

Programmes and customers

• For more than two decades CymSTAR's simulation products and engineering services have prepared US Air Force aviators and maintenance crews, including work such as a C-5 simulator at Joint Base San Antonio
• Fifteen years of simulation products and engineering services for US Navy aviators, plus modifications to US Marine Corps C-130 and AV-8B training systems and machine gun simulators for live fire ranges
• Helicopter door gunnery and hoist training systems and depot-level maintenance of live fire range systems for the US Army, and new training systems delivered under the Foreign Military Sales programme
• A key member of the industry team awarded the US Air Force Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS) contract, developing virtualised and containerised simulation, augmented, mixed and virtual reality training devices and cybersecurity compliance, with modelling and simulation expertise now applied to space operations training

Approach

CymSTAR describes itself as a small business partner with organic engineering capability, offering around 10 percent cost savings compared with large primes, a flat organisation and processes aligned with ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288:2015, NIST standards and the Department of Defense MOSA strategy, with integrated master plans and schedules and DoD-referenced risk management. Its teams span programme management, systems, software, electrical, mechanical and aerospace engineering, technicians and technical writers, with skills in aerial refuelling and flight dynamics modelling and distributed mission operations. The company runs a veterans hiring and SkillBridge programme and funds community investment and scholarships.
