Chelton Limited (formerly part of Cobham)

Chelton is a British aerospace and defence engineering company based in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. It designs and makes antennas, avionics and land communications equipment for civil and military aircraft, vehicles and ground sites. The company was founded in 1947 as Chelton (Electrostatics) Limited. From 1989 it was part of the Cobham group. The old cheltonavionics.com address now forwards to chelton.com.

What Chelton makes

• Airborne antennas: communication and navigation antennas, RF components and conformal antenna suites for aircraft such as the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Korean KF-21
• Avionics: airborne TETRA radios, anti-jam GPS systems with beamforming CRPAs, electronic warfare pods and systems, direction finding systems for search and rescue, and electrostatic dischargers
• Land: vehicle intercom systems, including the AN/VIC-5 digital intercom, and explosive ordnance detection equipment
• Microwave antennas from its Newmarket site, including Link 16 antennas, vehicle, fixed and dismounted antennas, and electronic warfare antennas

Approvals and facilities

The company shows EASA and UK Military Aviation Authority approval logos on its site. It says more than 140,000 of its vehicle intercom systems are installed around the world, and that it uses robotic cells to raise antenna production. Chelton has sites in Marlow and Cheveley, Newmarket, and a North American sales team.
