About Canberra Airport

Canberra Airport is the airport serving Canberra, the capital of Australia. It handles domestic and international passenger flights and also runs business precincts around the airfield.

The airport sets itself a clear goal: to be the best small airport in the world. It has daily international flights and a modern terminal. The company lists domestic and international destinations, airlines, arrivals and departures.

Capital Airport Group manages the airport. The group bought it from the Commonwealth Government in May 1998. It started out in commercial property in Canberra and Sydney. Since then it has turned a small airport surrounded by farmland into a busy precinct.

The current terminal opened on 13 March 2013 after an investment of $420 million. It covers more than 55,000 square metres. It has 3,300 car parking spaces, 10 passenger aerobridges, 34 check-in counters and six baggage carousels. There is a taxi rank with an indoor waiting area, plus food, drink and retail outlets. Environmental projects aim to make it one of the greenest airports in the country.

Passengers can find help with parking, pick-up and drop-off, taxis, rideshare, rental cars and chauffeurs. The airport also offers special assistance, a program for hidden disabilities, lost property help, pet transport information and a visitor information booth. Duty free and currency exchange are available in the terminal. A public bus, Rapid 3, links the terminal with the city centre in under 20 minutes. It runs every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends.

The airport precinct is more than a terminal. It includes the Fairbairn RAAF base, Brindabella Business Park, Majura Park and the Fairbairn commercial precinct. Brindabella Business Park has 18 commercial buildings. Majura Park has a shopping centre, medical centre, childcare and conference facilities. Fairbairn is home to private and government organisations, including the RAAF base and several high-tech businesses.

Capital Airport Group also develops property beyond the airport, including Denman Prospect and Constitution Place in Canberra City. It supports public art, with sculptures placed in the terminal and nearby precincts. The airport also publishes information on aircraft noise and on remotely piloted aircraft and drones.
