About Canadian Armed Forces
The Canadian Armed Forces, called the CAF, is the military force of Canada. It has three environments, the Navy, the Army and the Air Force, that work as one team. It recruits people across Canada for regular and reserve roles.
The CAF offers careers in many fields. They include aviation, naval operations, combat operations, transport and logistics, health care, computing and intelligence, safety and emergency services, engineering and infrastructure, administration, hospitality and support, public relations, and equipment and vehicle maintenance. Careers are grouped by Navy, Army, Air Force and Reserve.
People can learn who can join, the ways to join, the steps to join and what basic training involves. The CAF offers paid education. It also runs a Reserve Force, a Naval Experience Program and programs for Indigenous peoples. Applicants use an online applicant portal.
The CAF says it offers competitive salaries and benefit packages from the first day in uniform. Some featured occupations in the Regular Force offer a $50,000 recruiting allowance. On 8 August 2025, the Government of Canada announced improvements to pay and benefits for CAF members. They are to be rolled out over the following 12 months.
The CAF says women can enrol in any occupation, including operational trades, and serve in any environment. It also invites former members to re-enrol.
Recruiting centres and reserve units can answer questions about joining. The CAF holds recruiting events, both virtual and in person. Candidates can chat with a recruiter on Facebook about general information, visit a recruiting centre, or send an online inquiry. A help centre answers common questions, such as how to improve competitiveness, how medical conditions affect eligibility and whether overseas credentials are recognized.
