Aviation Supplies & Academics, Inc. ASA

Aviation Supplies and Academics, Inc., known as ASA, publishes books and makes supplies for pilots, flight instructors, remote pilots and aviation mechanics. The company is based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in the United States.

ASA began in 1940 as Merrell Aviation Ground School in Seattle, Washington. Its first products were plotters, regulations and training manuals for post war military pilots who moved to airline work. Over the next decades it added more pilot supplies and books. In 1976 the company took the name Aviation Supplies and Academics, and it was incorporated in 1977. In 2022 it was bought by ASA Michigan. In December 2025 it moved from Newcastle, Washington, to Kalamazoo.

The ASA FAR/AIM has been in print since 1945. The test preps have been made for more than 60 years. The range also includes textbooks, software, apps, online courses, videos, flight instructor tools, aviation mechanic materials and logbooks. It makes flight computers, such as the manual E6B and the electronic CX-3, along with plotters, kneeboards and flight bags. Remote pilot and drone materials are part of the line too.

The site lists new editions, including the 2027 Aviation Mechanic Test Guides, the Instrument Rating Oral Exam Guide, 12th Edition, and a field guide to FAA medical certification. Visitors can browse by career path, such as remote pilot, aviation mechanic, private pilot, commercial pilot, instructor, aircraft dispatcher and helicopter pilot.

Domestic and international distributors carry the full product line around the world. The company says its products are used in ICAO, CAA and FAA training settings.
