About ATMOS Space Cargo
ATMOS Space Cargo is a European space company that builds and operates space logistics and return services. It aims to give controlled, repeatable access to orbit and a safe return to Earth. The company has offices in Lichtenau and Strasbourg and three European locations in all, in Germany, France and Poland.
Its reusable PHOENIX orbital transfer and return vehicle, or OTRV, supports routine access to low Earth orbit, autonomous missions in orbit, controlled re-entry and fast recovery of payloads. Missions follow standard cycles. The company says this lets governments and industry work in orbit with continuity, reliability and independence.
ATMOS runs the full mission from start to finish. The steps are contract and mission definition, payload integration and qualification, logistics and launcher integration, in-orbit operations and mission control, data downlink and monitoring, and controlled re-entry and recovery. Customers who want to fly a payload to low Earth orbit can ask for a quote and a time estimate. The capsule allows flexible time in orbit.
The company has more than 150 employees from over 17 nationalities. It plans seven launches between 2027 and 2029.
Recent milestones include finishing phase 0 of an ESA CDF study for PHOENIX 3, signing a memorandum of understanding with Astrolight on a laser link through re-entry, and raising 25.7 million euros in a Series A round. Partners include the European Space Agency, Space Cargo Unlimited, the Institute of Space Systems, Frontier, Voyager, the International Space University and HyPrSpace. Investors include the European Innovation Council, Balnord, Expansion, OTB Ventures, Seraphim and Hightech Gründerfonds.
ATMOS says it was founded as a European company, built on freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights. It says access to orbit and controlled return must be run within clear legal frameworks and with partners committed to peaceful and lawful use.
