ATC-Communication

ATC-Communication, also called ATC-Comm, is a Dutch training company for aviation radio telephony and aviation English. It teaches pilots, balloon pilots, air traffic controllers and ground staff how to speak with air traffic control. The company has been running since 2003.

Its radio telephony courses teach the standard English phrases set by ICAO. The courses lead to an RT rating on a pilot licence, for VFR or IFR flying. A VFR course has 6 lessons of 2.5 hours. An IFR course has 4 lessons of 2.5 hours. The company also gives refresher courses and courses made to fit a client. The theory subject can be learned by self study.

Air traffic controllers and pilots must meet ICAO language rules. ATC-Comm trains and tests for this, with the aim of reaching at least level 4. The language exam can be taken online. The company also offers a placement test, group exams, exams on location and online preparation courses. It can screen the English level of students online as well, and says its clients include large flight schools around the world.

Courses come in three forms. Live e-learning has the student log in and use a transponder and a radio on screen, while talking to the instructor by voice over the internet. Hybrid e-learning mixes online and class work. Classroom courses are also given. A computer, internet and a microphone or headset are needed for the online course.

The company is a registered training institute under number RT NL-RTF-301/1. Its courses follow the rules of the Dutch inspectorate ILenT. It runs the practical RT exam itself. It says hundreds of students have gained their RT rating through it since 2003.
